A Gift of Sleep

We’d recommend Dr. Amber Evenson to anyone. I made the initial call, and she was immediately friendly, genuinely interested, empathetic, and comforting about our situation with our baby’s very frequent waking throughout the night and our chronic sleep deprivation.

When we met Dr. Evenson at our home visit, she was a calm, intelligent, and thoughtful mentor; she understood what we were and were not willing to do as far as sleep training methods, and she worked with us very patiently and professionally over the weeks.

Anytime we had a question (or several!), she responded promptly, clearly, thoroughly, and very thoughtfully. We always felt reassured by her guidance and trusted in her judgment and suggestions for next steps we should take. I wrote lengthy emails to her daily with detailed information and lots of questions, and Dr. Evenson promptly responded to all of them, one at a time, with precision, rationale, options, suggestions, and always a caring tone.

When we started with Dr. Evenson, our 9 month-old had been waking up on the hour every hour after 11 or 12 p.m. until 5 in the morning when he was up for the day. Suffice it to say, we were chronically sleep deprived and desperate for a change. We were afraid of sleep training methods we’d read about and unable to pull off gentler versions of others without outside help.

Dr. Evenson acted as our coach, our teacher, our trusted guide through these at first difficult changes which became easier after a couple of times trying them out.

Now, just three weeks later, our son can put himself to sleep without crying or needing to be nursed to sleep. When he wakes up during the night as babies are prone to do, he wakes up far less often than he used to and he gets himself back to sleep within a couple of minutes, and we don’t need to intervene.

These changes are beneficial for our baby’s sleep health, and they are extremely beneficial for our own. Thanks to Dr. Evenson, we’ve been given the gift of sleep and a newfound confidence in our capabilities as parents. We’re eternally grateful for Dr. Evenson’s shared knowledge, experience, time, generosity, kindness and empathy throughout this learning process.
